A veteran of 35 years in Baseball, Mr. Giles is a leading authority on the laws and rules of our Great American Sport. After serving as a front line Lieutenant in World War I, he headed the Moline Club of the I.I.I. League in 1920. In 1927, he was President of the Rochester Red Wings and guided them to 4 straight pennants. Mr. Giles later joined the Cincinnati Redlegs and became the Redlegs' President in 1946. He was elected President of the National League in 1951.
The 1916 Sporting News M101-4 and M-101-5 sets were released only a few years after the famed tobacco card sets produced by the American Tobacco Company.
Sal pitched part of one season with the Giants, then jumped to the Mexican League, returning to organized baseball for the 1950 season. Since his return he has won 59 games and lost 18. His 23 wins in 1951 tied him for the most wins in the league, and aided the Giants' pennant cause immeasurably. In 1950 his 18-4 record gave Sal a .818 percentage, the best in the league.
