Hit .255 in 94 games for Pirates in 1950; .268 in 118 games for them in 1949. Started pro ball as a third baseman, then switched to short. Has played both positions for Pirates. Pete was playing in minors when he joined the Navy. On return (1946) hit .342 for Selma, Southeastern League. From Selma he moved to Indianapolis, where he batted .308 in 1948.



First hit the majors with the Browns in 1939. Remained with them through 1947, with 3 years out for the armed forces. Traded to the Cleveland Indians in April 1948. With them for 2 seasons. Divided the earlier part of the 1950 campaign between San Diego and Sacramento of the Pacific Coast League. With Pittsburgh Pirates rest of season, hitting .206 for 40 games. Now back with the Browns.



A seasoned veteran, Ellis was used in both starting and relief roles by the Red Sox in '52 He did a great job of relieving for them in '51 when he won 11 lost 2, had 2.55 ERA and appeared in more games than any hurler in the AL (63) The crafty curve-baller, who's been in pro ball since '38 and in the Majors since '45, led the AL in Pitching in '49 when he chalked up a 23-6 record for the Sox. He was with the Browns in 1945-46-47 and came to Boston in '48.
