Bucky was called "The Boy Wonder" in 1924 when at the age of 27 he was named manager of the Washington Senators. He had been playing in organized ball since 1916, and with Washington since the end of the 1919 season. In 1929 he moved to Detroit as player-manager. Also managed the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phils and Yankees. This is his third managerial assignment with Washington. Led his teams into the Series in 1924, 1925 and 1947 with New York.
Infield pride of Boston. This fighting shortstop led the Majors in hits in '47 with 207 hits. Batting average .330 that year, 3rd highest in the League. Couldn't match it in '48, but did manage a respectable .281 with 159 hits. Clutch slugging average .365. A scrapper all the way.
Jack has been a starter, long reliever & late-inning fireman during his career. He was used mostly as a starter for Reds in 1972 and added depth to pitching staff.
