It went for 56 straight games. The Cleveland Indians on July 17, 1941. The pitchers were Al Smith and Jim Bagby, Jr., who combined to shut out DiMaggio.

The 1916 Sporting News M101-4 set was offered as a marketing promotion by C.C. Spink and Son, publishers of The Sporting News, with the backs either blank, bearing the publication’s name, or carrying one of several different advertisements.



He used to beat major league clubs while pitching for a semi-pro team, Paterson Silk Sox, so it was natural that he should enter the big show. He joined Yankees in 1924 and has been in American League ever since. Besides Yanks, has pitched for Browns, Senators, Red Sox and White Sox. Last year, he won seven and lost 17 for seventh place club. Is a right-hander, 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighs 185 pounds. Born in Ridgefield Park, N. J., in 1900. During war served in Navy.



Not known for his hitting, Fred got key RBI last season. In game vs. Mets, June 9th, Fred squeezed home insurance run in 9th inning and got Save in 4-2 victory.
