Martinez was 8 years old when fellow Puerto Rican Roberto Clemente led Pittsburgh to victory over Baltimore in the 1971 World Series. The outfielder hit .414, won MVP honors and sparked a lifelong passion. "After that Series, I went outside my house and I started playing in the backyard." Martinez said. "I was hooked on baseball."
