After two years in service, Whitey came back in 1953 to be the top winner on the Yankees' staff with 18. He lost 6, and his earned run average was an even 3.00, the fourth best in the league. After burning up the Yankee farm system, Whitey joined the Bombers, midway in the 1950 campaign, and his pitching was instrumental in their winning the pennant. In 1953 Whitey defeated the Indians 4 times, once losing a no-hitter on a dribbler down the third base line.



The rookie outfielder displayed great power as he finished 5th on the club in homers after coming up late in the 1965 campaign. Roger, a good gloveman, has led two minor leagues in putouts.
