Walter Beck's professional career goes back to 1924. He has pitched for the St. Louis Browns, and Brooklyn, but most of his activity has been in the minor leagues, where he proved himself an outstanding pitcher. He came to the Phillies last year from Hollywood of the Pacific Coast League, and appeared in thirty-four games for them. He won seven, pitching a total of 12 complete games. He has been both a starter and a relief pitcher. Beck's greatest minor league achievement was, winning 27 and losing only 6 for Memphis in 1932, to lead the league.
