Dave won the 1st game of the '51 World Series against the Yankees and was a valuable relief man in the Giants pennant drive. He's the oldest Giant in point of service joining them late in '41, and except for 3 years of Navy service and a brief stint with Jersey City in '42, has been with them ever since. He started with Hopkinsville in '39, and had a 17-9 record with Paducah in '40. His 2.50 ERA topped the N.L. in '49. Davey has 14 shut-outs to his credit through '51.

When Pete was a catcher as a kid, he was a great admirer of Mike Piazza, whose Mets home run records he is now jeopardizing. At 28, Alonso needs just one more 30-bomb season to tie Mike's franchise-high of four. "Polar Bear" already owns the team mark for longballs in a season (53 in 2019) and career HR% (just ahead of Dave Kingman and Piazza).

Each 1916 Sporting News M101-4 card features a sepia image with the player’s name, team, position and the card number identified at the lower white border.
