Lawrence Cheney, pitcher of the Chicago National League team, was born in Belleville, Kan., May 2, 1886. Upon his graduation from high school when twenty years old, Cheney accepted a position with the Bartlesville Club of the Oklahoma-Kansas League. He remained with Bartlesville until 1908, when he was secured for Indianapolis. He was released to Louisville in 1911, and joined the Chicago Cubs in the fall of that year.
