"Zeke" Bonura, who acquired his nickname from the late Knute Rockne, who marvelled at Bonura's physique, started his professional baseball career with his home town team in 1929. He played with them until 1933, moving to Dallas and from there to the Chicago White Sox. Zeke played first base for the White Sox until the end of the 1937 season, failing to hit over .300 only one season. On March 18, 1938, Zeke was traded to the Washington Senators who in turn traded him to the New York Giants on December 11th for Tom Baker, Jimmy Carlin and cash.
