Willie came up to the American League at the end of the '51 season with the Senators. He went to the White Sox and then to the Browns in '52. After breaking into pro ball in '48, Willie was moved up to Chattanooga where he played for 3 seasons. During those years, Willie, a standout fielder, hit .237, .248 and .246. He had a .444 mark in 7 games with the Senators in '51.
Bill Hershberger, the understudy of Erny Lombardi, came up to Cincinnati from the Newark Bears late in the 1937 season. Three years in the minor leagues, Bill batted .300 or better each year, having an average of .325 with Newark. With the Bears, in 1937 Hershberger was a standout catcher, both defensively as well as offensively, driving in 62 runs in 96 games. In his first season with the Cincinnati Reds, Bill played in 49 games, hit .276, driving in 12 runs. Hershberger, the second-string catcher for the Reds, is improving steadily in his hitting and doing a very good job when filling in for Lombardi.
Speedy and as flashy a fielder as anyone in the majors, Tommie led A.L. outfielders with 7 double plays in '66.
