"Marcum is considered one of the most promising pitchers in the American League. Joined the Philadelphia club last fall, won three games and lost 2. Before going to Philadelphia, pitched for Louisville of the American Association, where he won 20 games and lost 13 in 1933. John hails from Eminence, Ky. Is 23 years old, 5 feet. 10 inches tall, weighs 200 pounds. Bats left-handed; throws right-handed. Besides being a clever pitcher, he is also a hard hitter. At Louisville last year, swatted .303 in 80 games, playing the outfield when not pitching."

Ray is primarily a 3rd Sacker, but can play any infield position and the outfield. He was named "Rookie of the Year" in the International League in 52. He signed a pro contract in '47 the only one of 300 candidates at a tryout camp to make the grade. From '47 to '50, Ray hit .326, .354, .275 and .289. At Winston-Salem in '51, he hit .363, had 28 HR's, 127 RBI's and got the MVP award.

Fans are not going to forget Bobby's one out, last of the ninth home run in the third playoff game against the Dodgers last fall. It drove in 3 runs, gave the Giants the game, 5-4, and, with it, the pennant. Bobby hit .294 for the 1951 season. Drove in 101 runs. Had 32 homers.
