Tall, thin "Slats," is "Mr. Shortstop" himself. One of game's greatest fielders, Marty is also a dangerous clutch hitter. He first played Organized Baseball in 1936 with Huntington of Mid-Atlantic League - moved up to Rochester for three seasons and then to Cardinals in 1940 as their regular shortstop. His total major league batting average is .266, fielding average, .966. Named National League's Most Valuable Player in 1944, he has been on four All-Star teams. He led the National League in fielding in 1944 with .972 average, in 1947 with .981.
Eddie, one of the best defensive infielders in the American League, could be called "The Walking Man." He led the American League in drawing bases on balls during 1952 with 129. He was in a batting slump most of year, hitting only .233. He's capable of a better average as his preceding years show. In 1951 he hit .283 and in 1950 batted .295. He's never played in minors.
