A product of the Yankees' farm system, Steve came up with the Yanks in 1946 after spending 3 years in Military Service. He batted .302 in 46 games, was sent to Kansas City in '47, and was recalled in '48. After the '48 season, Steve was traded to the White Sox and hit .234 in '49. At Sacramento in '50, he batted .291, drove in 99 runs and smacked 30 Homers. The Tigers drafted him for '51. Steve started in pro ball in '39 and hit .315 at Binghamton in '42.



The Athletics acquired Al from the Yankees' Kansas City farm in a big pre-1954 deal. Al spent three and a half years at Bradley University before signing with the Yankees in 1949. His father was athletic director and coach at Bradley. He was sent to Grand Forks, N. D., and got in 44 games that first season in baseball. With Binghamton of the Eastern League in 1952, he was in 117 games and hit .303. He can also play second and shortstop.



Possessed with sure hands and an accurate arm, Denis is a true asset to any club. The shortstop was plagued with injuries this past season and the Braves were at a loss for an adequate replacement.
