Willie was brought up to the Giants in '59, when he was hitting .372 at the P.C.L. With San Francisco, the lefthanded slugger batted .354 and was named the National League Rookie of the Year.
James P. Walsh, outfielder of the Philadelphia American League Club, was born at Conemaught, Ireland, on September 22, 1888. His professional career began with the Syracuse club, of the New York State League, in 1911. A year later he played with the Baltimore International League team, and came to the Philadelphia Americans in the fall of 19:2.
In 1953, Hank posted his best Big League Batting Mark and Home Run total. His .289 average and 20 Homers in 1950 were his previous highs. In 1950, Hank led the N.L. 3rd Basemen with 43 Double Plays to set a new League Record. The Giants brought him up in 1949 and he hit .280 in 75 games. In '52, Hank hit .260, drove in 67 Runs and smacked 17 Home Runs.
