Returned in 1946 to become a starting pitcher for the Giants. Though Dave's win-lose record was 11-14 in 1949, he led the League in low earned run averages with a nice 2.50. Few players come back after a serious injury to have a season like Eddie Miller had last year with the Boston Bees. The highly-touted youngster lived up to all his publicity notices by being far and away the best shortstop in the National League. He fielded a brilliant .970, taking part in 122 double plays, and his .276 batting average does not tell the story of 79 runs batted in, 157 hits, fourteen home runs. and 33 doubles. Miller was headed for a great season in his freshman year, 1939, when he suffered a broken leg in July and was forced out for the rest of the year.
