For a player whose Major League action was negligible until he neared his 30th birthday, Patrick has raked with extraordinary power. Between his Cubs debut of September 25, 2020, and August 19, 2022, he played in the second-fewest games of the 11 Senior Circuit players to hit 50 home runs. Last May, Wisdom went yard in four straight contests.
"Bob" Seeds, who is the only major league ball player to own a ball club of his own, is in his third season with the New York Giants. Seeds is president of the Amarillo club in the West Texas-New Mexico League, and his wife is business manager. The Giants purchased Seeds from Newark in 1938, and he has proved a useful man to have on a club. He is a good fielder and a long, dangerous hitter. He appeared in only 63 games last year but accounted for 26 runs-batted-in on 46 hits. The year before, he filled a bad gap in the Giant outfield and drove in 52 runs in 81 games. Besides the Giants, Seeds has played with Cleveland, Chicago, Boston and New York in the American League. Because of his numerous changes of clubs, he was tagged "Suitcase" by "Bib" Falk, one of his managers.
Probably the most sensational figure in baseball last year, was Rookie Charley Keller, of the World Champion Yankees. Up from Newark, Keller was placed in the regular right field post shortly before mid-season, and was never ousted. He hit .334 during the regular season, driving across 83 runs with 133 hits, but reached his peak in the World Series by wrecking the Reds almost single-handed. He topped everybody with seven hits, including three damaging homers, a triple and a double, averaged .438, scored eight of the Yankees' 20 runs, and played a flawless game afield. Keller is a graduate of the University of Maryland and is regarded by baseball experts as a "natural."
