Jumped to the Cleveland Indians directly from the University of Alabama in 1921 after turning down an offer to play with Boston Braves. Brother Joe was then starring with the Indians when this influenced his decision. Has been in the big league ever since. Altho known as Luke, his full name is James Luther Sewell. Born in 1901 at Titus, Ala.. One of the best catchers in the American League. 5 feet, 9 1⁄2 inches tall, weighs 170 lbs. batting right handed. Last year hit .253 in 87 games. Traded to Washington last January.



The Pirates were happy to roll the dice on Michael - a former top-100 prospect they dealt for in 2021. He paid off with a .357 AVG in limited action that year and solid power in '22. On June 23 versus the Cubs, Chavis hit a game-tying homer in the eighth inning. Two frames later, he made a brilliant play to prevent a run preceding his own walk-off single.



Dick is the top righthander on the White Sox staff. In 1957 he tied for the best A.L. Won-Lost Percentage and for most Complete Games pitched. Dick started in baseball in '47, but it wasn't until 1954 that he found himself at Atlanta where he won 18 games.
