Traded to the Senators this spring, Tom was one of the White Sox' best pinch-hitters in '53 with a .379 Slugging Mark. He led the American Assn. in Batting with .368 at Louisville in '49 and the Carolina League with .380 at Durham in '46. Tom hit .318 in 54 games for the Red Sox in 1950. He was traded to the Browns in '51 and to the White Sox in '52.



Johnny is one of the more fan-friendly and accessible ballplayers. In 2002, he was the winner of the first "30th Man" vote, in which fans made the last pick for the All-Star Game roster.



The righthander's first win during the 1965 season came at the expense of the Yankees and Whitey Ford. However, Diego's most thrilling victory last year was his 10-2 win over the A. L. champion Twins and their star pitcher Mudcat Grant.
