Whitey is one of the surest fielders in baseball, and he can hit the ball well in a clutch. He appeared in 148 games for the 1954 World Champions and he batted .251. Whitey had 143 hits for a total of 217 bases. These included 17 doubles, 3 triples and 16 home runs. He batted in 60 runs and scored 73. He began in organized ball in 1943 with Springfield, and after 40 games with them joined Jersey City, the Giants' top farm. He was with them through part of 1945, then came to the majors.
In 2 years as manager of the Yankees, Casey has led the team to 2 American League pennants and 2 world championships. An outfielder for 21 years, beginning in 1910. Playing career in the majors included the Dodgers, Pirates, Phillies, Giants and Braves. Was first a manager in 1925. Club was Worcester, Eastern League. Managed the Dodgers for the years, 1934-1936. Piloted the Braves, 1938-1943.
