Still rated as one of the most likely to succeed, Tom will be given another opportunity to win the Angels' catching job this year. Known for his good hands and quick thinking, Tom received his baptism under fire by catching a one-hitter in his first game.



Gene made his major league debut late in 1943, played 18 games for Dodgers and then served a three year hitch in service. He returned to play 64 games in 1946 and bat an even .200. He got his batting eye back following season when he hit .275 and batted in 39 runs. Last season was his best. He appeared in 133 games, hit 15 homers, batted in 60 runs and wound up with a .290 average. He attends Seton Hall College during the off-season.



"Ozark Ike" had his best year in 1953, placing 2nd in the American League in Homers, Slugging (.559) and driving in 100 or more runs for the 3rd straight season. Gus came to the Athletics via a 3-way trade with Chicago in 1951 and that year he led the American League in Home Runs (33) and Runs Batted In (129).
