One of the better catchers in the American league although not much of a hitter. Shares behind plate duties with Jake Early. Finished 1948 season with very fine .983 fielding record and .259 batting mark. Deadly on throws to second base. Took part in six double plays last season.
Robert H. Bescher, outfielder of the New York National League Club, was born at London, Ohio, in 1885. His professional experience began with the Lima Club, in 1906. The next two years he played with Dayton, of the Central League, and joined Cincinnati Nationals in the fall of 1908. He became a wonderful base runner, and was traded to New York Nationals in December, 1913.
