Who was the stolen base leader in National League in 1937?
View AnswerCoffee Talk Name that player!
THE BEST PITCHER I'VE EVER SEEN by Chet Nichols. To me, one of the greatest pitchers in baseball today is my own team mate Warren Spahn. His unbelievable won and lost record is far superior to that of any pitcher in both leagues today. He has won more than 20 games for six seasons. His earned run average has been great, and his strike out record has surpassed any pitcher in the National League. I certainly hope Warren has six more years left like those in the past.
In 9 full Big League seasons, Mickey hit over .300 only once in 1946, when he won the American League Batting Crown with .353. A World War II Veteran, he got a trial with the Senators in 1939 and came up to stick at the end of the 1940 season. In 1951 he was the best-fielding first baseman in the AL and in '49 was tops at First in Putouts and Assists. His 155 Asists in 1949 is a major league record for first basemen.
In 1966, Doug was the All-Star third baseman in the Texas League. He was sent up to Oklahoma City where he continued his fine play and earned a promotion to the majors. Doug completed the 1967 campaign with a bang, hitting .333 in 47 games with Houston. In addition to his duties at the hot corner, Doug can also play first base.
