When the Braves moved from Boston to Milwaukee in 1953, they brought a rich history with them. Old timers still talk of the amazing 1914 team that went from last place on July 4 to win the pennant and crush the favored Athletics in 4 straight World Series games. In 1928, Rogers Hornsby led the League as a Brave with a .387 B.A. For the past 14 years, Warren Spahn has proven to be one of the greatest all-time Braves pitchers.
The big righthander was named The Pitcher of the Year in The Texas League in 1966. He earned a promotion to Houston and on June 18, 1967, Don hurled a brilliant 2-0 no-hitter at the Atlanta Braves. In one game last season, Don fanned eight straight batters and went on to whiff 18 in all.
This 24-year old righthander appeared in just eleven ballgames for the White Sox last season. Yet, the rookie demonstrated that Mgr. Stanky could call on him with confidence. Fred has been used as a starter and reliever throughout his career. Still developing, Fred has a long major league potential.
