After spending his first 2 years in pro ball with Hollywood and Salem, Ed served 3 years in the Army Infantry and saw action in the Pacific. Back with Hollywood in '46, he won 20 games and led the Pacific Coast League in Strikeouts (234). In '47, he had a 4-9 mark with the Reds and was sent to Syracuse where he won 15 in '48. Ed was recalled in 1949 by the Reds. In March of 1952, the Reds optioned him to Kansas City and he's subject to recall.
Dick started in baseball in 1952 after attending college. The Pirates signed him to a contract and on December 15, 1959 he was traded to the Athletics. Last season at Pittsburgh he started one game and relieved in another. Dick figures to be a big help to the A's.
"A real come back pitcher. Had trials with St. Louis Browns, but failed to make the grade. Went to the minors where he proved a sensational pitcher, and he was bought by Brooklyn at the close of the 1932 season from Memphis club of the Southern Association, where he had led the other pitchers of the league with 27 wins and only 6 defeats. Pitching for Brooklyn last year, Beck worked in 43 games, winning 12 and losing 20, for a club which finished 6th. Beck is a right-hander, 6 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing 190 pounds. He bats and throws right-handed. He was born in Decatur, Ill., 1906."
