Frank Frisch, who used to manage the Cubs, always said that Roy looked like a movie star until he gets on the field, when he looks like a good shortstop. He began in baseball in 1944 with Los Angeles. Appeared in 61 games, and was in service for all of 1945. Spent 1946 with LA, Davenport and Shelby. Roy was with Des Moines in 1947 and joined the Cubs in 1948. He broke his leg sliding into third in 1951 and was out of the game from April until July 1.

The Athletics acquired Bob from the then St. Louis Browns. A wily worker, he appeared in 32 games for the Brownies in 1953, winning 4 and losing 10, a record that could easily have been reversed with a better team behind him. He appeared in 32 games, 13 of which he started. Began in baseball in the Giants' organization. First came to the majors with the Chicago White Sox, then went to the Detroit Tigers.

Don was traded to Boston by the White Sox during the winter season. While a freshman baseball and basketball star at the University of Illinois, he enlisted in the Navy. In 1946 he started in the minors and made the majors with the Browns in 1950 after hitting 26 homers for San Antonio. As a rookie, he played first and third base and the outfield and wallopped 22 homers. The White Sox paid the Browns $75,000 for him in '51.
