Clyde, who can power a long ball, appeared in 62 games for the Senators, in 1954, hitting .256. He drove in 15 runs with his 30 hits. Clyde's first at bat in the majors is memorable, because he hit a home run on the first pitch thrown to him. That was in May 1942 and he was with the Cincinnati Redlegs. He began in baseball in 1939. He came to the American League in 1948 with the Washington Senators. They traded him to the Boston Red Sox in May, 1950 and in April, 1953, he was sold back to the Senators.
In 2024, Tanner made big-league history. He was second starter since 1920 with a sub-2.00 ERA in his first 12 season starts with one or less total HRS allowed and a 5/1 K/BB ratio.
