One of the outstanding finds of the 1951 season. A fleet- footed outfielder who can swing a mean bat. About a month after the opening of the '51 campaign, Jim was hitting .359. His season's average was .283. He stole 26 bases. Attended Texas Christian on football scholarship.
A cracker-jack fielder. Batted .233 in 131 games in 1950. Drove in 58 runs. Eddie's first major-league club, the Cincinnati Reds, traded him to the Boston Braves at the end of 1942. On baseball's voluntary retired list in 1944, but came back in 1945 to play in 35 games. Switched to minors by the Braves. Brought back to majors by A's. Their regular shortstop since 1947. Batted .263 in 144 games, 1949.
Frank is one of the best outfielders in the league. He can go get 'em in the outfield with the best of them and is an excellent hitter. Batted a nice .306 in 1953. Frank gained great fame at Ohio University as a basketball player, and played pro basketball for a time. However, he came to the point where he had to choose between basketball and baseball. Frank chose baseball. Been in pro ball since 1941.
