Strongly built, Don was one of Cincinnati's top pinch-hitters in 1968.

Had a great year for the Phils in 1951. Compiled a .344 batting average, which was second best in the league. Led the league in base hits with 221 and in singles with 181. Began in organized baseball in 1945 with the Phils' Utica farm club. His rookie year in the majors was 1948.

One of the hardest working pitchers on any club, Pete Appleton sees action chiefly as a relief hurler. After four seasons with Washington, Appleton was traded last year to the Chicago White Sox with outfielder Talf Wright for Gee Walker. He pitched fair ball for the Senators, considering the fact that the Nats were a second division club, his best year being 1936, when he won 14 and lost 9. Previous to joining the Nats, he saw major league action with Cincinnati, Cleveland, Boston and the Yankees. Appleton, a graduate of the University of Michigan, is an accomplished pianist.
