Left the U. of Arizona to join the Bisbee team and hit .331 that year. In 1941 with the same team he hit .356. Entered service after the '42 season during which he hit .351. Returned with Tulsa in 1946. Hit .332 with Los Angeles in 1947. Last season for the Cubs he hit .252 in 80 games.

Carl made a great comeback in 1953 after a disappointing season in 1952. He hit .247 that year, a very low average for him. It was said that he was having trouble with his eyes that year. During the winter he had an eye operation. He bounced back in 1953 to win the National League's batting title. His average was .344 and he hit 21 home runs and batted in 92 runs. Has a great throwing arm. Runners don't take chances when he has the ball.

Since RBI became an official statistic in 1920, Yoán is the only American League player with multiple five-hit/five-RBI games in a season. Those performances in 2022 included a three-run homer.
