BASEBALL THRILLS. Bronx, New York - September 30, 1927. BABE RUTH HITS 60TH HOMER. Babe Ruth rewrote the record books this afternoon when he smashed his 60th homer of the year off Washington Senator pitcher. Jonathan Zachary. The southpaw, no stranger to the power of Ruth's bat, had twice previously this season been tagged for the long ball by the Bambino. Fans went wild as the baseball soared into the stands shattering Ruth's old home run record of 59, a mark he achieved in 1921. Babe's new record is one which will undoubtedly stand for years to come.
