The Pirates drafted Clem in November of '51 after he led Southern Association Shortstops in Fielding at Little Rock. His pro career started at Jamestown of the Pony League in '46 and Clem hit .299. He went to Williamsport in 1947, Charleston in 1948 and for Flint in 1949 broke the Central League Stolen Base Record with 39. The stocky "pepper-pot" player served in the Army during World War II.
James Scott, pitcher of the Chicago American League team, was born in St. Louis, Mo., January 23, 1878. His first professional engagement was with Davenport, Iowa, in 1904. In 1906 he was with Rock Island, and the following year Wichita. In the fall of 1908 Chicago Americans bought him.
