After five extraordinary seasons, Todd refused to let up on MLB pitchers in 2003. On August 1, he became the first player in either league to reach 100 runs. Helton entered the season ranked first among actives in both batting and slugging averages. In both '00 and '01, he topped 100 extra-base hits.



Gair, a former Wake Forest College star, made a fine comeback at New Orleans last season after being on the disabled list for 3 months because of an injury. He hit .242 despite a weak ankle. In '52, his rookie pro campaign, he hit only .216 at New Orleans, but drew 125 Walks and smacked 18 Doubles and 5 Home Runs. He is an exceptionally good fielder.



Thomas William Leach, outfielder of the Chicago National League team, was born at French Creek, N. Y., November 4, 1877. His baseball career started in 1896, when he accepted a position with the Petersburg Virginia League Club. In 1898 he joined the Auburn New York State Club, and was sold to Louisville in the fall of that year. In 1900 he was transferred to Pittsburgh, and was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 1912.
