With the crack of the bat, Dick is moving to scoop up the ball and convert a hit into an out. For the second straight year he was among the leaders in Total Chances, Putouts and Assists for shortstops. A great all-around, natural athlete, Dick went to Duke University where he starred in basketball, and was All American for scoring over 23 points a game. He signed a bonus contract in 1952.



One of the leading pitchers of the American Association, a left-hander, 6 ft. tall and weighing around 196 pounds. Spent 10 years in the National League, pitching for Brooklyn Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates. Went to Los Angeles in 1931 and last year shifted to Minneapolis. In 1932, won 16 games and lost 10. Born at Orr, Okla., Nov. 23, 1894 but later moved to Texas. During the World War served 2 years in the army as a dispatch rider. Began his professional baseball career with San Antonio in the Texas League in 1916.



Don got into 131 games for the Tigers in 1953, hitting .257 and driving in 47 runs. He had 21 doubles, 4 triples and 9 homers, and made a good impression. He entered pro ball in 1945 with the Brooklyn organization. He was a football star in his days at the University of Michigan. The Browns got him from the Dodgers in 1948 and the Tigers purchased him from St. Louis in 1949. With Buffalo in 1952 he hit .302 for 138 games and had 16 homers and 80 RBI.
