Ken is one of the bright hopes on the Dodger pitching staff, and if he can match his Montreal record for 1954, the Brooklyn brass and fans will be happy. He was in 34 games for the International League team winning 18 and losing 10. He started 29 games and went the route 15 times. He struck out 105 men in 215 innings pitched, and his earned run average was 3.35.
"Ray Benge in 1933 was the best fielding pitcher for the most games played in the National League with an average of 1.000 in 37 games. He pitches an overhand curved ball. Cleveland had him for two years (1925-26) but let him go to the Three-I League. The Phillies got him in Waco, Texas, in 1928 and kept him for six seasons before letting him go to the Dodgers. He was born in Jacksonville, Texas, April 22, 1902. Stands 5 feet, 9 1⁄2 inches high and weighs 160 pounds. He throws and bats right-handed. He started out to be a school teacher in Texas but found he could pitch good ball and became a ball player instead."
A credit to the franchise, David swept the D-backs off-the-field honors in 2021: the Luis Gonzalez Award for "talents, spirit and heart," their Roberto Clemente Award nomination and the media's Good Guy Award.
