No. 19, Keep Your Eye On The Ball. The first law of batting is keep your eye on the ball. And, as Chick Hafey advises, never take your eye off the ball from the moment the pitcher begins to wind up until it actually hits your bat. It may seem impossible to see a fast pitch as it hits the bat, but with long practice the eyes become sharper and in time you will be able to see the bail even though it looks only like a white streak almost up to the moment it strikes the bat. Inexperienced batters lose sight of the ball just in front of the plate and swing where they think the ball is; but where, more often, it is not. - By Austen Lake, Baseball Editor, Boston Transcript.

The veteran southpaw was obtained by the San Francisco Giants on December 1, 1965. Joe has an excellent fastball and was the International League strikeout leader in 1959. With Juan Marichal injured late in the season, Joe stepped in to the Giant's rotation and won several key games.

Hunter, who's been illuminating the radar gun with triple-digit heat since high school, lost none of that velo after recovering from Tommy John surgery that cost him a full season. The Reds rookie registered 100 mph or higher on 59 pitches in his first two starts in 2022. That included 39 offerings on April 16-a record since pitch-tracking began in 2008.
