1953 was the best season Dave has had since he came to the majors with the Chicago White Sox. He appeared in 157 games and his batting average was a good .303. This was the eighth best average in the league. He had 188 hits which included 30 doubles, 9 triples and 9 homers. Dave batted in 59 runs. Began in 1940. The Athletics obtained him in April, 1951, in a three team deal. Traded to the Cleveland Indians.
The Indians strengthened their outfield when they got Dave from the A's in '54. Last year, he was the A's top hitter. After a trial with the White Sox in '41, Dave spent 4 years in Service and made the grade at the end of '46. He hit .287 and .286 in 1948-49 for the Sox and was traded to the A's in 1951. In '52, Dave hit .263 for the A's and had 71 RBI's.
