Derek spent most of his first 4 years with the Red Sox in the bullpen before moving into the starting rotation in 2002. He won 21 games that year, the second-most in the American League, and followed with a nifty 17-7 mark in 2003. He was an American League All-Star as a reliever in 2000, when he led the league with 42 saves, and as a starter in 2002.
Rated as one of the greatest professional golfers in the world, Walter Hagen's fame is not confined to this country. The "Haig" became famous in 1914 when he won his first American Championship, the National Open. He was the Western Open Champion in 1916. He won the Metropolitan and the National Open in 1919. Looking for new worlds to conquer, Hagen went to England, and won the British Open Championship four times, 1922, 1924, 1928, 1929. Scores of Sectional and State championships have been won by Hagen, who has also played in many spectacular matches with Bobby Jones, Gene Sarazen, and other top flight golfers. Still playing the game, his presence in any tournament signifies the title will not be won without a great battle from the "Haig".
