Name that player!

THE BEST HITTER I'VE EVER SEEN by Fred Baczewski. There are a lot of good hitters in the game today, but I've got to go along with Stan Musial. He hits everything a pitcher could possibly throw up there. He's so interesting to watch, you even stop what you are doing to watch him take batting practice. And, besides, he is one of the swellest fellows in baseball. He's the greatest!

Gilbert James McDougald nicknamed "Gil" led the American League in 1952 in double plays. Tied World's Series records by batting in four runs and homering with bases loaded, tieing Elmer Smith, Cleveland, 1920 and Tony Lazzeri, New York Yankees. Also tied for number of errors by third basemen in Series of 1952. Elected Rookie of the Year 1951.

Hank established a new National League record for third-basemen in 1950 when he took part in 43 double plays. This was his first year as a Giant regular and he hit .289 and slugged 20 homers. In 1947, he got his first Big League trial with the Browns, but didn't click. The Giants brought him up from Jersey City during the 1949 season. He spent 2 months in the minors in 1951, but came back to play in the World Series.
