Ed appeared in 39 games for the Boston Braves of 1952. His 23 hits were for a total of 31 bases, and he hit 2 home runs. He began in organized baseball in 1942 with Albany, then spent the next two years in service. Didn't get to the majors until 1951 with Boston. Appeared in 72 games for them that season, batting .282. Led Southern Association in putouts in 1950 with 707.
Took part in 39 games in 1951. Won 7, lost 9. Pitched 168 innings. Walked 99 batters while striking out 123. Involved in two 3-hit games. The first, in partnership with Bill Werle against the Reds, was a 10-inning tie game. The second was against the Cubs. Sent to minors, May 1, 1952.
Drafted from the Twins last winter, Rich was Minnesota's starting 3rd baseman for 4 years. In his 3rd full year with the Twins, he led the AL with 10 triples.
