The Redlegs got Fred from the Cubs after the start of the 1953 season and he proved to be quite a sensation. He was in a total of 33 games, winning 11 and losing only 4. In 1952, with Shreveport, of the Texas League, he had a 2.41 earned run average. Fred has a lifetime minor league strikeout record total of 747 in 1,051 innings. He works in the U. S. Customs Office in St. Paul during the off season.
Salvador Perez is a unicorn in any era, having set the record in 2021 for most homers by a primary catcher, and also being the rare backstop to lead his loop in RBI. The catcher HR record stood for over 50 years (Johnny Bench).
