Bobby Doerr started his professional baseball career at the age of 16, with the Hollywood Club of the Pacific Coast League, in 1934. He played for Hollywood in 1934 and 1935 and in 1936 moved to the San Diego Club where he batted .342 for the season. His hitting ability attracted the attention of the major-league scouts and he was purchased by the Boston Red Sox in 1937. He is rated as one of the best infield prospects ever sent up by the Pacific Coast League. He is a brilliant fielder at second base, with a whip throwing arm. Doerr's two-year batting average for 200 games played is .256.

After serving 2 years in the Army Quartermaster Corps, "Smokey" started in pro ball as a pitcher. He had a 2-6 record, when he switched to the outfield and hit .354. At Roanoke in 1949, he led the Piedmont League in Batting (.345), RBI's (112) and Homers (29). He had hit .320 and 25 Homers at Birmingham in '50 when the Red Sox called him up. With Louisville part of '51, Charlie was optioned to Louisville again in March, 1952 and can be recalled if the Red Sox need him.

Each 1911 Turkey Red masterpiece bears a colorful and highly detailed player depiction on large, thick cardstock measuring 5-3/4” x 8”. A larger border area is reminiscent of a picture frame with the player identified at the lower edge.
