Al goes into the 1969 campaign as the Mets' all-time winningest pitcher with 43 victories. He has 14 career shutouts and the distinction of tossing two one-hitters, both at the expense of Houston.
In addition to the 1909 T206 "The Big Four" (rare cards), the set has two other tough rarities - St. Louis versions of Bill O’Hara and Ray Demmitt.
Although Willie's average sagged a bit last season, he showed he was still one of the toughest hitters in the League with his big home run output. A speed demon on the bases, he ran away with Base Stealing honors with 40 swipes. In the '56 All Star Game, Willie unloaded a homer blast and his All Star average stands at a tremendous .500 for 3 contests. When Willie won the Batting Title in 1954, he was voted the National League's Most Valuable Player.
