Grover Cleveland Alexander, pitcher of the Philadelphia National League team, was born in 1887, on a farm near St. Paul, Neb. He first played ball with the St. Paul town team when he was seventeen years old. In 1968 he accepted a position with the Central City, Neb., club; and from there he went to Galesburg. In the spring of 1910 Alexander reported to Indianapolis, but was sent to Syracuse. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Nationals in the fall of 1910.



"Granny" led the Phils in Doubles last year, placing 2nd in Team Homers, RBI's and Total Bases. His B.A. was the best of his Major League career. In '49 he led N.L. Shortstops in Assists and tied a record for playing 157 games in 1950. Collecting 6 hits, "Granny" boasted a .429 mark in the '50 World Series.



A really great young pitcher, 1952 was Robin's third straight year in which he won at least 20 games. He won 28 games in 1952, the most wins for any major league pitcher. It was also the first time. a National Leaguer has won that many games since 1935. He started the most games, 37; had the most complete games, 30. Robin was signed by the Phillies for a reported bonus of $25,000.
