Solly tied teammate Stan Musial for the League Leadership in Runs Scored in '52. He's been in pro ball since breaking in with a .363 Average at Pocatello in '46. He played the next 3 seasons for Houston and after batting 328 in '49, was brought up for a Card trial. Solly split the '50 season between the Cards and Columbus and in '51, his first full season in the NL, had a .281 Batting mark in 120 Games as a Shortstop and 2nd Baseman.

The 1916 Sporting News M101-4 set features stars such as Eddie Collins (#24), Charles Comiskey (#36), Ty Cobb (#38), Sam Crawford (#41), Joe Jackson (#87), Hugh Jennings (#90), Walter Johnson (#91), Babe Ruth (#151), Joe Tinker (#174) and Honus Wagner (#182).

Johnny won more than twice as many games last year than he did in his past 3 pro seasons combined! After signing as a $65,000 bonus player, he pitched only 4 innings for the Braves in '48 without a decision. Although he didn't have a winning season in '49, Johnny finished with a low 3.56 ERA. A six man deal brings him to the Giants for '54.
