"Mel Harder is one of the most dependable pitchers on the Cleveland staff. He is a right-hander, 6 feet tall, and weighs around 170 pounds. He was born in Beemer, Neb., October 15, 1909, and began his professional career with Omaha in the Western League in 1927. He was secured by Cleveland the following year. Mel was sent to New Orleans in 1929, but was recalled and has been with the Indians ever since. Last year he won 15 games and lost 17 for a club which finished 4th."

Began professional career in 1938 as third baseman. Later played outfield until switching to mound in 1946. In two seasons he became league's top pitcher and has 20 or more games in five of last six years. Tops was 23 in 1950. Has one no-hitter-against Detroit in 1948. Fine fielder and hitter.

Javier, just 23, has spent parts of the past three seasons in the Majors, adding left field to his diverse defensive profile in 2016. He's a ferocious swinger who can make parks look small when he connects.
