There can be no question of Jim Thorpe's right to be classed with the Sports Kings of All Time, for the mighty fame of this famous all-round athlete will live forever. Born in Oklahoma, in 1888, son of the Sac and Fox Tribe, Jim attended the Carlisle Indian School. He excelled in every sport, and particularly in football, basketball, baseball and track. His reputation as a football player is known far and wide, and during his great season of 1912, he scored 198 points. That same year, Thorpe won the decathlon and pentathlon at the Olympic Games at Stockholm. Later in professional football and baseball, he continued to thrill the fans with his great feats. He is best remembered for his football playing at Haskell, and his reputation as the world's greatest All-Round athlete.
An all-around infielder. Hit .279 in 115 games in 1951. Had 20 doubles among 101 hits. Batted in 38 runs. Can do an excellent job in the field, but is valuable even on the bench as a prospective pinch-hitter. Sibby lists the making of home movies among his hobbies.
