Name that player!

William Carrigan, manager of the Boston American League team, was born in 1882 at Lewiston, Maine. He received his early baseball training at the Lewiston High School and at Holy Cross College. He was secured for the Boston Club in 1906, but in the spring of 1907 was farmed out to Toronto. He played with Toronto throughout that season, rejoining Boston in the fall of the same year.

"Defense wins, man," says Derek. "When you play shortstop, it has to be your number one priority." Kinda makes one wonder how good a hitter he would be if offense were a priority. Last season, again brilliant with the glove, Jeter also became an explosive weapon at the plate. His streak of reaching base by a hit or walk in the first 53 games was a team record - by a whopping 24, besting Dave Winfield's 1988 start.

In four minor league seasons, Tommy never batted below. 308. In tough Triple-A competition, he batted .345 and was the circuit's top hitter. A top draft pick by the Pilots in '68!
