The 1916 Sporting News M101-4 set features stars such as Eddie Collins (#24), Charles Comiskey (#36), Ty Cobb (#38), Sam Crawford (#41), Joe Jackson (#87), Hugh Jennings (#90), Walter Johnson (#91), Babe Ruth (#151), Joe Tinker (#174) and Honus Wagner (#182).
Earl Hamilton, left-handed pitcher of the St. Louis American League Club, was born at Oswego, Kansas, July 19, 1892, and played his first professional ball with the Springfield Club, of the Western Association, in 1909. In 1910 he was with Joplin, of the same league, and the following year with Petersburg, of the Virginia League. At the close of the 1911 season he was purchased by St. Louis, and has been with that team since, although he signed a Federal League contract in the spring of 1914 and. then jumped back.
Minor stars round out the 1911 Turkey Red baseball card set. Roughly the same number of each Turkey Red subject was printed; most early 20th century collectors preserved stars rather than commons.
