George was signed by Detroit in '39 after starring in High School. The next Spring he was made a free agent and he signed with the Braves. He hit .308 for Evansville in '42 and .325 for San Francisco in '43 before being brought up by the Red Sox. He played for the Sox until the Indians bought him in '47. He went to Oakland in '48. George was voted the Pacific Coast League's Most Valuable Player in '50 and was drafted from Oakland by the Pirates.



A boy who's made good in his home town. Scouts saw him playing up on Washington Heights and within a year he was promoted to the top Giant farm club, Jersey City. His record of 52 consecutive games without an error is still to be topped. The style and perfection of his workmanship is a joy to behold. His quick hands are his great baseball attribute. Batting average last year was .287.



On May 10, Corey blasted two homers, the 11th multi-homer game of his career. It was his second two-homer game at Globe Life Field, where the 2020 Postseason was played.
